There is a deep truth that has been surfacing in our lives for years. We find it on the trails, echoed in the teachings of mystics from a thousand years ago, see it in those we love, read it in Hafiz. Like surfing or ultra-marathons, life is full of invitation to go deeper to restorative places where we find a strange mix of joyful play and hard work. We call it JoyHard.

We believe that we are made for the tending, keeping, and restoration of the world around us. This includes the land and the hearts of those in our path. It’s hard; really hard. But, we’re also made for play.

Joy is the neuro-mechanism of loving attachment - the strongest motivating force in humans and the one that facilitates restoration. Find joy, that “I’m so deeply glad to be with you”, and you’ll be ready to sign up for 100k trail races even though you secretly don’t like running or enter reverently into your friend’s broken heart. Joy is what shifts the hard into transformative and sacred; sometimes, a deeper kind of fun than we normally every experience.

It’s this joyful play together that opens space for engagement and invites us to that which sounds impossible.
